Let's talk about the difference between shame and guilt.

I frequently hear people using these two words interchangeably, and that is not the case.

Shame has to do with how you feel about yourself (perceiving yourself as fundamentally flawed), while guilt is not liking or feeling discomfort with what you did.

Why is it important to differentiate the two?!? Because guilt can help you move forward while shame keeps you stuck. You can change actions/behavior, but it's difficult to change if you believe that what you did is inherently who you are.
