“People do not develop, anxiety, panic attacks, or depression because they have a deficiency of Valium or Prozac... Anxiety and depression are often nutrient deficiency diseases and chemical sensitivities...” - Dr. Carolyn Dean

Here are a few things to consider when experiencing symptoms of depression:

* Magnesium is important when it comes to the production, release, and uptake of the neurotransmitter Serotonin, which helps with emotional balance. If deficient in Magnesium it can contribute to symptoms of depression. Note that things such as stress, vitamin c, fluoride, and calcium are a few things that can also deplete magnesium.

* B complex - is often in greater demand when experiencing an increase in stress, in particular, B12 deficiency (under 450) has been shown to cause the following symptoms: fatigue, depression, numbness, tingling of hands/feet

* Vitamin D: low levels of vitamin D have also been associated with symptoms of depression. Optimal level is 45-65. RDA 600 iu/day, however this may also be a weekly dosage depending on your deficiency level. Also, note that wearing sunscreen prevents us from absorbing Vitamin D.

* Teas that are helpful if experiencing symptoms of depression include: St john’s wort and Rhodiola.
