Last week you practiced on challenging your critical thinking and replacing it with more compassionate thoughts.
This week we will be working on self compassion behavior, so think self-soothing and self-care.
Self-soothing is a skill that allows us to calm down when we are in distress. We each have the ability to tap into this skill, but like any other skill in life we must put it to use. The more we practice the skill, the better we get at using it when we most need it.
A simple exercise you can do is to think of your five senses (smell, sight, taste, touch, sound) and come up with things that you can do to calm down when you are in distress. It can be anything from a warm bubble bath, to watching your favorite movie, or working on a puzzle.
Take a look at today’s Story if you need some ideas, but I would greatly encourage you to personalize this activity and really get to know (if you don't know already) what brings you comfort.
Once, you have picked a self soothing activity/activities go ahead and incorporate it into your day. Ideally it would be nice to have something everyday of the week, but if that’s too much right now then start with where you are and gradually build up.
Leave a comment and let me know what you will be doing this week to take care of yourself?
